Crucially, it is open to undergraduates from their second year, not just doctoral researchers \u2014 part of the university&#039;s long-standing approach of putting real research within reach of every student.<\/p>\n<h5>What the centre will focus on<\/h5>\n<figure class=\"uni-post-figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"uni-post-img\" src=\"https:\/\/dev-dreamslms-wp.dreamsmarketplace.com\/university\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/07\/uni-blog-28-inline.jpg\" alt=\"Researchers working at computers in the new centre\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption>The centre brings machine-learning researchers together under one roof.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Work in the centre is organised around four themes, each led by staff who are active in the field:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"uni-post-list\">\n<li><i class=\"isax isax-tick-circle5\"><\/i> Machine learning for healthcare diagnostics and imaging<\/li>\n<li><i class=\"isax isax-tick-circle5\"><\/i> Responsible and explainable AI, including bias and governance<\/li>\n<li><i class=\"isax isax-tick-circle5\"><\/i> Robotics and autonomous systems, with the engineering faculty<\/li>\n<li><i class=\"isax isax-tick-circle5\"><\/i> Natural language and applied data science for industry partners<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"uni-post-quote\">\n<p>Opening the centre to undergraduates changes what a degree here can be.
