DreamsLMS University has opened a dedicated Artificial Intelligence Research Centre, bringing together researchers from computing, engineering and health sciences under a single roof for the first time.

The centre houses a shared GPU cluster, three specialist labs and open project space for cross-disciplinary teams. Crucially, it is open to undergraduates from their second year, not just doctoral researchers — part of the university's long-standing approach of putting real research within reach of every student.

What the centre will focus on

Work in the centre is organised around four themes, each led by staff who are active in the field:

• Machine learning for healthcare diagnostics and imaging
• Responsible and explainable AI, including bias and governance
• Robotics and autonomous systems, with the engineering faculty
• Natural language and applied data science for industry partners

Opening the centre to undergraduates changes what a degree here can be. A student can go from their first lecture to co-authoring a paper without ever leaving campus.

The centre is now accepting applications from students interested in summer research placements, several of which are funded through the university's industry partnerships.
